Abstract | For the first time an attempt is made to outline the areas of 20 words: bel{\v c}ug, b{\u a}brek, delva, deliboran, kalina, kalpak, ke{\v s}ir, kov{\v c}eg, korem, kraguj, k{\u a}r{\v c}ag, oruglica, otava, sukman, sur, haranija, {\v c}ipak, {\v s}avar, {\v s}aren, {\v s}ubrak. These words are assigned by etymologists to the basic Proto-Bulgarian word stock of modern Bulgarian. They belong to different lexico-semantic groups. Their areas form two zones, western and eastern, which correspond to the dialect distribution of the Bulgarian language. The special characteristics of the Proto-Bulgarian elements should, undoubtedly, be taken into consideration in tracing their etymology more accurately and convincingly. |
