Abstract | The article deals with causativity/factitivity of verbs in Hungarian in comparison with English. The author attempts to prove that Hungarian is one of the languages in which the distinction between the causative and the factitive is almost entirely grammaticalized. To describe more fully the causative constructions, sublativity and other factors should be taken into account. A conclusion is reached that Hungarian is not an appropriate counterexample against passive analyses of causative constructions and Comrie’s opinion should be argued against. |
