Abstract | There have been quite a lot of common regularities in the formation of the Bulgarian and the Ukrainian languages. They are both based on colloquial speech, although they have integrated a number of elements from previous literary traditions as well. For some time the formation processes took place throughout a period characterized by the lack of a common social, political, economic and cultural centre. The circumstances allowed for considerable variability in the norms. The creation of the written literary forms was given priority in both languages. Besides the common regularities in the formation and development of literary Bulgarian and literary Ukrainian each of the languages has its own specific features, conditioned by the environment in which the respective processes were at play. |
