| Abstract | The features which serve as basis of the Balkan linguistic union are manifested most completely and consistently in Bulgarian: 1. Bulgarian possesses a complete set of Balkanisms, whereas a certain number of them are missing in the other Balkan languages; 2. The Balkanisms, with their uneven territorial distribution, are consistently present in Bulgarian in all its dialects and are manifested in a highly developed and firmly established form, including those which exist in the other Balkan languages as trends only. Bulgarian is thus defined as a Balkan language-standard which unites relevant specific features of the Balkan linguistic union. |
