Abstract | Motivated polysemantic words differ from unmotivated ones by the presence of two types of derivational relationships: internal and external. The external relationships are the actual or apparent result of a derivational act and accordingly they can be primary or secondary. The internal derivational relationships of the semantic components of the motivated polysemantic words can be likewise primary and secondary depending on whether they are the result of an actual or an apparent internal (semantic) derivation. The semantic structure of the motivated polysemantic words is the sphere of interaction between word-formation (as a process and a result) and semantic derivation. The study of this interaction and its results is a question of great importance. |
